Barsham played their second away fixture of the season against Wrentham & Mutford on the large Wrentham pitch that is covered with rabbit holes and is seriously lacking any grass.
Barsham manager Mark Blades was again without some key players missing from his starting line up and had late call offs on Saturday morning. He again opted for the Josh Woolnough and Adam White partnership as his strike force.
The four man midfield comprising of Stuart King, Paul Turner, Tim Roberts, and Russell Walker was constantly trying to prise open a way through the strong physical Wrentham defence. The Barsham defence worked very hard all afternoon against a very quick Wrentham strike force.
Jimmy Pepperell and John Howlett were solid throughout. Paul Clark in the right back position had a superb performance getting some timely
tackles in.
Unfortunately slack marking allowing the home sides strike force enough time and space to create a move down their right wing. A wild Barsham clearance went high into the sky then bounced in the penalty area before the loose ball fell to a striker who fired the ball wide of the Barsham
keeper to open the scoring.
Adam White scored an equaliser for Barsham after he chased a through ball from Stuart King that was bouncing towards the head of a Wrentham defender. He read the mind of the home defender whose choice was to head the ball backward to his goal keeper. Adam gambled and got to the ball before it reached the keeper and calmly dispatched the ball over the advancing keeper's head into the Wrentham net with a very well taken strike. The Wrentham side were very capable if allowed to play quick passing football and shortly before half time another lapse in the Barsham defence again allowed the home side enough space to create another goal scoring opportunity. They swept through the Barsham defence and regain the lead with a well struck shot.
At half time Barsham introduced Michael Pye into the left back position and he immediately made his mark on the game with his no nonsense approach. He drove the Barsham side forward and with regained confidence they now started to create more goal scoring opportunities.
Stuart King was unlucky with a strike that bounced over the bar before Adam White also went close with a shot that was saved by the keeper.
Josh Woolnough was also now getting into the game more and his hard work was rewarded with a goal scoring opportunity that he fired just wide of the target. James Green & Aaron Williams came on in midfield and put in
creditable performances.
Unlike the first half Wrentham were pinned back for long periods in the second half but they weathered the storm and were still dangerous on the break.
In the dying minutes with Wrentham hoping for the 2-1 win Barsham mounted yet another attack and a shot from the right side was spectacularly saved by the keeper, the rebound fell to Barsham captain Tim Roberts who from a very acute angle fired home the second Barsham equaliser.
Straight from the kick off Wrentham mounted another attack that resulted in a corner; the home side were unable to get onto the end of the cross so the ball was cleared from danger. The ball went straight down the other end and this time Barsham went very close to snatching the points but effort was also just off target.
The game ended at 2-2 with both sides sharing the points, the first for both sides.
